Crime Continues to Drop City Wide in New York City

According to the most recent statistics released by the NYPD, crime continues to drop in the City of New York. Compared to the same week last year, total felonies are down by 6.07%. Murders are down by 80%, but rapes are up by 12.5%. Misdemeanor sex offenses are also up by 35.1% compared to the same week last year. Year to date, major crimes are down over 8%. As a historical comparison, in 1990 there were 2,262 murders in the City of New York. That works out to over 6 murders a day. In 2014, there were only 333 murders, which is an 85.5% drop city wide.
